good blender recommendations

Does anyone have a particular brand of blender that they like and would recommend? I seem to have a gift for destryoing them (or I'm not buying the right ones) because I've gone through a few- I think it's because I try to blend ice and they can't handle it. I'm going to try to get one second-hand at our local recycling place and I would appreciate a little advice on what to look for.
