    3D Herpes Infection Model

Scientists represent! I can't tell if they are talking about animal testing in general or specifically in regards to herpes.

    Goodbye Cold Sores
Herpes infections on the lips, in the eyes or on the nose are painful, long-lasting and unpleasant. A new 3D herpes infection model brings hope: active ingredients and new treatments can be reliably tested with this model. Animal tests could soon be a thing of the past.

It sounds like a step toward eliminating animal testing for herpes research, but I do think it could be more broadly applicable. It's really awesome that they were able to put together a tissue culture skin model with a neuronal cell line. This would even be better than animal models in some respects, because it could be made from (or maybe already is) all human cells.

Cool! I read that thing like three times and I still couldn't wrap my pea-brain around it. Thanks

I hate when vegans say categorically all animal science is flawed. It isn't.

This is a good podcast about animal testing by a vegan scientist. http://asksciencedude.info/podcast-e...animal-testing

Slightly o/t. Also, I recently had a herpes sore in my nose - first ever - and OMG it hurt. I bought Abreva, which I'm sure is hella not vegan but damn it cleared it up in one day. (Well, enough that it no longer hurt.)

Here's another vegan scientist, with an article about a similar technique for lung cells:
