The quote comes from my non-veg dad, so that should carry a lot of weight. The only embellishment that I gave was the exclamation point. Not to mention my own endorsement as the best chicken fried steak since New Jersey's Veggie Works' Singing Cowboy. Here is my latest review from one of San Antonio's finest, Green Vegetarian Cuisine. One of my tips is order the kale salad, one of the best that I've had and visit the Japanese Tea Garden, too! Oh and crispy fried pickles!
A friend of mine is compiling a reading list and requires books about anti-consumption. He just finished grad school summa cum laude, so no worries about a particular text being too dense, he can handle it. He's also fluent in both Russian and English, so if you know one in Russian that's fine too.

PBP was the first spot that came to mind to ask about this. xD I'm very interested to read anything you all might recommend myself!

TIA

Beans and peas are special, say the USDA!

Particularly the fiber would seem to set them apart from meat protein sources. I was excited to read this on the USDA MyPlate website:

Quote:

[Beans and peas] are excellent sources of plant protein, and also provide other nutrients such as iron and zinc. They are similar to meats, poultry, and fish in their contribution of these nutrients. Therefore, they are considered part of the Protein Foods Group. Many people consider beans and peas as vegetarian alternatives for meat. However, they are also considered part of the Vegetable Group because they are excellent sources of dietary fiber and nutrients such as folate and potassium. These nutrients, which are often low in the diet of many Americans, are also found in other vegetables.

Finally, the nutritional superiority of the lentil is appreciated!

The page goes on to show how legumes should be counted in the MyPlate scheme - first as protein, then as veggies once you reach adequate servings of protein.

What do you guys think? Am I the only one who wondered about such things?

I got to travel to the state where the stars are bright and found some AWESOME places to eat. Vegeria is San Antonio's first all-vegan restaurant, serving tex-mex and American cuisine. If you're every in San Antonio, skip the allama and the riverwalk and heads towards vegeria instead, especially on saturdays. I'm still thinking about that donut!
