I was an exchange student in Finland 3 years ago. While I lived there, I learned to live without the foods I was used to eating in the USA. When I returned to the USA at the end of the year, I spent much time with some friends who were vegetarian, and they showed me the wrongs of and health problems tied to eating meat. I figured that if I could give up certain American foods for one year, I could easily give up meat. First I gave up red meat in the summer. At Christmastime I gave up turkey, chicken, and pork. I gave up fish and eggs for Lent. Finally, I gave up dairy and other animla products at Eastertime. That was 2 years ago, and I've been vegan ever since.
