Today, two days before I'm supposed to be moving, I began a pole dancing class. I thought it would be a fun way to exercise. And it was. Is. I learned tricks called The Virgin, and The Fireman. Oh, and Shake the World. Can't forget that one.

I can't raise my arms and my thighs are bruised. I laughed so hard I have a sore throat.

D:

I loved it.

Describe, please. The Virgin seems like a bit of a non sequitor.

I'm with quagga, except I'm still trying to find a place to run. The streets here aren't on a grid and intersect at random angles, so it's really, really easy to get lost. In addition, the sidewalks are fair game for (and sometimes even seem to be intended primarily for) bicycles and cars.

I'm trying to think of a way to describe in words. Maybe I'll post a video. A tasteful one, of course. ;)

Headstand, right?

okay, it seriously took me an hour to figure out what the heck it's called! i've been googling forever just to be able to answer your question. hee.

it's "L-shaped handstand," which i'd never even seen before i took this new class. she first taught it 6 weeks ago, and i was like "wha?" and i couldn't do it at all. my feet just kept coming right back down.

i've always been more of a shoulderstand/plow kind of girl, but i also feel a little conspicuous because i give up every time and just switch to shoulderstand/plow, and i want to learn what everyone else is doing. (in all honesty, everyone just does the inversion they want to do, but a lot of people work on the L-shaped handstand, and some do forearm balance, and some do handstand or headstand.) aaanyhow, i suddenly made some progress on it last week, and then yesterday it was like, "bang! i can do this!" and i went right into it and could actually hold it for several breaths. i did it three separate times and held it pretty well (considering i couldn't hold it at. all. before). yay!

i also found this video of an amusing girlie teaching (http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-do-The-L-Shape-in-Yoga----GE-56-65769894) how to do it, whilst on my google search. cookie break!

That is a great inversion to become proficient at! Congratulations again.

This pose is a common prep for full-blown handstand, so maybe in a while you can mix it up with handstand if you like.

i seriously rocked the yoga yesterday. :silly: i popped right up into that inversion, and held it for something like 10 breaths! and then i did it a few more times (but less breaths those times). i'm really getting the hang of it. i also did a little bit of crow yesterday, which has looong been my nemesis.

Yesterday, 1 hour pole class, and I have signed up for future classes, starting next Saturday. I will be doing those classes twice a week, Saturday and Monday, and adding Zumba class mid-week.

I will either become strong, lean and limber, or die. Not sure yet. ;)
