I've been shoveling snow everyday for the past 3 days - about 18 inches over the 3 day period. If also been running every other day and backcountry skiing about once every two weeks (not as much as I'd like).

Awesome...some MORE people to help me stay on track for the 2008 goals.

I've never been a runner...started briefly last year...got up to running about a 3 mile at a 12 min mile pace. then stopped.

So for 2008 I have begun training for a 15k (9 miles and some change) in March. I'm really looking forward to it, and did my first group run with some folks at the YMCA last night. I had to push myself to finish the 2 miles, but that was only because the group had all run before in years past....but they said not to get discouraged...I'd catch up.

Heck, I'm proud I can run even ONE mile. :D

C25K - Week 8 Day 3 - ran 2.75 miles straight in 33 minutes. (http://www.runningahead.com/profiles/61b3552a88ac4352bb1101ed9e8f45f4) Plus warmup and cooldown.

I am in awe of myself. I know some of you are fitter than I am and this may not seem like much, but for me, achieving this level of exertion without pausing is, frankly, unbelievable. It's like finding a stranger living inside me. Weird and cool.

ETA: Sorry, I just had to share this with all of you. I know it's bragging a bit. Thank you for your patience.

quagga - Congrats! I did c25k when I started running as well and I know what you mean. I was quite shocked to find I actually could run!

I was a bit under the weather and just feeling "off" last week. Back to the gym tomorrow morning for PP class, then yoga tomorrow night. If I get a run or 2 in this week that would be good too.

OMG, ow! I knew I was slacking, but didn't expect it to be this hard to come back? 1 hr PP class this am. The usual instructor injured herself skiing over the winter break, so we have a sub. She seems nice enough but I don't think lifting is what she normally teaches. Plus she looks to be about 5 or 6 months preggers, so if the normal instructor doesn't recover soon I expect we'll be getting yet another sub. Not complaining (too much ;)) but I do miss the original teacher.

Hope I can survive yoga tonight, I'm gonna be sore tomorrow!

SyrLinus - Good luck with the kickboxing. It's a fun workout, but requires more coordination than I can usually muster.

Finally ... I signed up for an exercise class (stretching & strengthening) which is pretty challenging. And I bought a pedometer so I can get 'credit' for the time I spend on my feet at work. The really cool part is that the class is at a circus school (!) and if I manage to build up enough upper body strength, I can take trapeze and arial dance classes.

That's awesome! It actually takes less upper body strength to trapeze than you think. At least the very basic stuff, I went with a friend once and it was great fun. She's an aerial tissu artist (same as aerial dance?), now that takes mad crazy muscles. I can't even do an unassisted pull-up, she can crank out a dozen easy.

I'm still quite sore so I decided another round of PP class was not what I needed this morning. I'll try to do a little lifting this weekend and hit class again next Tuesday. Gotta get moving on a little cardio too.

She's an aerial tissu artist (same as aerial dance?), now that takes mad crazy muscles. I can't even do an unassisted pull-up, she can crank out a dozen easy. They're calling it "aerial fabric", so I'm pretty sure it's the same kind of thing. So amazing to watch. Looks like this (http://necenterforcircusarts.org/gallery/gigs/default.htm?image=elsieonfabricintheloveshow.jpg&index=8). Anyway, that's sort of a distant aspiration ... I'm where you are on the pull-ups, so it'll take a lot of work before I'm even half way to being in that kind of shape. It does seem like trapeze is more doable.

Is it the twins' school? The one my sister goes/went to? Yup, that's the place! I forgot your sister went there! It's so great that there's classes for us grown-up types. Usually the kids get to have all the fun. :silly:
(in case anyone's curious ... the school, NE Center for Circus Arts (http://necenterforcircusarts.org/), was started by twin sisters who used to be Cirque du Soleil performers.)

I need to become a hamster. I've become way, way, way too inactive these past several weeks.

If it counts, I thought about doing yoga today...and walking on the treadmill. I'll do better tomorrow and actually do those things.

I'm back on the hamster wheel! Yesterday spasticastic and I walked about six and a half miles in a little over two hours. Today we hiked for about as long, but I don't know exactly how far we went.

It's nice to get out! :p

BTW, quagga, congrats on your run from a while back! Sounds like we have a similar pace, maybe? If I ever move back to Chico, we could be running buddies. By then you'll be up to 1 hour, no problemo! Actually, I have no idea whether I can still run for an hour... I haven't even tried since I moved away from Chico back in late August. :embarr:
